As a logistics service provider we contribute to the success of our customers and this way we regularly assist in special projects. Last year, we were approached by Atlas Copco Compressors Nederland from Zwijndrecht (Netherlands). One of their customers asked them to supply a compressor installation for a new factory to be built in Podari, Romania. The entire installation consisted of piping for compressed air, impressively large compressors (the total power consumption is approximately 3.5 megawatts) with accessories and ductwork. Given the quantity and size, the ductwork (for ventilation) and the pipework was stowed in two containers for the purpose of loading and unloading. The smaller compressors were loaded into the third container, together with the service parts needed for the start-up on site. These containers were sitting at Atlas Copco and a supplier’s terrain.
Based on the dimensions of all materials, Base Logistics calculated that three trucks were needed for three 40ft containers and three trailers for the compressors and pressure vessels. Since various suppliers were working in Romania, Base Logistics drew up an efficient loading and unloading schedule for the location in Romania.
Arlo Carbaat of Atlas Copco Compressors Nederland, responsible for the logistical process, says about the cooperation with Base Logistics: “The transport of these types of materials requires careful preparation in terms of transport, but on paper everything must also be in perfect order. Despite the short preparation time, Base Logistics took good care of the actual logistics part, which gave us real peace of mind during the entire process. A good example of this is the fact that Base Logistics arranged a crane to put these containers on the wagons. As a result, we didn’t have to worry about loading the containers.
